Wish Lists Aren’t Just For Christmas

Can you tell me what you really, actually want? As part of my strategy session where all my clients start, we talk about the laundry list of things they want in their business… their goals.

I ask them:

“What does this business need to do for you, or your customers, or your community in order for it to be your dream business?”

I’m always blown away by how that question takes them by surprise and how difficult it is for them to answer.

Really, what do you want?

It’s a pretty good place to start cause you aren’t building this business for anyone else. This isn’t your practice life. If you are finally sitting in the driver’s seat, why in the name of Zeus wouldn’t you aim for exactly what you want?

I think there are a few explanations for this:

You don’t think it’s possible.

You aren’t sure what you want.

You’ve been told to stay within some kind of box/formula/framework/bullshit cookie cutter business model in order to be successful.

It feels wrong to want something so good.

I need to sit down. Those were exhausting just to write. You know what’s going to free you up? Being unbridled in your desires. Being clear in your pursuits. Asking for the very damn thing you want.

Listen, I get it. There was a time that I was utterly convinced that the most I could have was a little company in a big city and an expensive office and exhausting schedules because that was the formula I was used to.

Imagine how giddy I was when I discovered that I sure as hell could wish for a life where I can pick my kids up from school every day, go to the gym when I want and still make great money.

I just had to give myself permission to want it. Without guilt. Without shame. Without all those other stupid limits we put on ourselves.

Look, it’s all possible. The first step is acknowledging what you want. Then you can create a plan for getting there. That’s the easy part. There is literally nothing stopping you except yourself.

So, go on…

What do you ACTUALLY want?

Tell me in the comments…

Give yourself a gift… What is your wildest wish? Make it real. That’s the first step.
